“Well, the Olympic Games are over and by all accounts they were the most successful in the history of the Games. There is no one person or group that can claim exclusive credit for this. In fact, Sydney as a capital pulled together in a way which is unprecedented in my lifetime and I suspect in the experience of many others.

I like most harbour mixed feelings as we look toward the future. We are extremely proud of our achievements, the honour that we have brought to sport and our country, and the national price that we were able to instill in people. It is unlikely that we will ever be involved in another event of such significance.

For my part, I must acknowledge the contribution of “my team”, the Corporate Services Program. Kinetic have been an integral part of this and I want to sincerely thank you for the enormous contribution that you and your staff have made, and the personal support you have given me.

Over the last 4 years we have made many demands of your company, most of which would be considered totally unreasonable in the “real” world. I can honestly say that I am not aware of one single instance where you let us down. On the contrary, whenever we wanted something done, you were there, the job completed on time every time and to the standard that is demanded when staging an event of the excellence that was the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

I trust that our friendship will continue, something that I personally highly value. I also hope that in whatever I go on to do, Kinetic can find opportunity and together we can achieve other great things. Please pass my deepest appreciation to all your staff.
